The library that lends out synthesizers like books
Three weeks, no deposit, a library card. Inside the instrument loan scheme with a two-month waiting list.
On the second floor of the district library, past the large-print novels, there is a shelf of machines: drum computers, a modular case the size of a suitcase, two analogue keyboards and a box of cables labelled in marker pen.
Anyone with a library card can borrow them for three weeks. The waiting list for the modular is two months long.
The librarian who started the scheme says the point is not to make musicians. “It is to let people find out they are one, without spending a month’s rent first.”
