The colour of wood

Oak, walnut and ebonised ash: choosing a timber that will age the way you want.

Every wood changes colour. Oak deepens to amber, walnut lightens to gold, and ebonised ash softens to brown where hands touch it most. Choosing a timber is choosing how a piece will look in ten years.

Look at a sample in your own light, morning and evening, before you decide. And ask the studio how they finish it: an oiled surface can be refreshed at home, a lacquered one cannot.
