Olive trees are made for sun-baked hillsides, not living rooms. Indoors they need the brightest spot you have, ideally a south-facing window or a conservatory, and they enjoy a summer on a sheltered balcony.
How to care for it
- Light
- Direct sun for at least six hours a day. This is the one plant in our range that genuinely will not cope with less.
- Water
- Water thoroughly when the top 5 cm are dry and let the pot drain completely. Less often in winter, when it rests.
- Good to know
- A cool, bright winter, below 15 °C, helps it flower. Some leaf drop after delivery is normal while it adjusts.

Rated 5 out of 5 Rated 5 out of 5 The care card actually helped
I always overwatered. The card said “when the top 5 cm are dry”, so now I check with a finger, and for once nothing has rotted.

Rated 4 out of 5 Lovely plant, slightly smaller pot
Healthy and well rooted. The size guide was accurate for height; the grow pot was a little narrower than I pictured.
