In South Africa the giant white bird of paradise grows several metres tall; indoors it reaches two metres or so. Its leaves split along the veins, which helps them survive wind. The splits are natural, not damage.
How to care for it
- Light
- Bright light with some direct sun. Near a south- or west-facing window is ideal.
- Water
- When the top few centimetres are dry, about weekly in summer. Never let it stand in water.
- Good to know
- Wipe the big leaves monthly. Indoor plants rarely flower; give it light and patience.
