Rubber plants grow into trees in South and Southeast Asia; indoors they settle below the ceiling and take pruning well. Each new leaf unrolls from a coloured sheath that falls away as it opens.
How to care for it
- Light
- Bright, indirect light, and a little gentle morning or evening sun is welcome. In darker spots it grows leggy and the dark leaves lose their shine.
- Water
- When the top 5 cm are dry, about every one to two weeks. Dropping lower leaves usually means too much water or a cold draught.
- Good to know
- Dust the leaves with a damp cloth. The milky sap irritates skin, so wear gloves when you prune.
