Check with the Light FinderAbout this plant
Aloe vera has been grown in pots for thousands of years, so long that it is no longer known in the wild. It stores water in its thick leaves and grows slowly, sending up offsets around its base.
How to care for it
- Light
- Bright light with some direct sun. Full sun straight after a dim winter can redden the leaves, so move it gradually.
- Water
- Water deeply when the soil is completely dry, about every two to three weeks, and rarely in winter.
- Good to know
- Use a terracotta pot and gritty compost. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.

Rated 5 out of 5 Rated 5 out of 5 The care card actually helped
I always overwatered. The card said “when the top 5 cm are dry”, so now I check with a finger, and for once nothing has rotted.

Rated 4 out of 5 Lovely plant, slightly smaller pot
Healthy and well rooted. The size guide was accurate for height; the grow pot was a little narrower than I pictured.
