Check with the Light FinderAbout this plant
Native to the rainforest understorey of southern Mexico and Guatemala, the parlour palm evolved in the shade of taller trees. It grows slowly and stays compact, so it suits a desk while young and the floor later on.
How to care for it
- Light
- Low to bright, indirect light. Keep it out of direct sun, which yellows the fronds.
- Water
- When the top few centimetres are dry: about weekly in summer, every two weeks in winter.
- Good to know
- Brown tips usually mean dry air or a missed watering. Snip them off with clean scissors.

Rated 5 out of 5 Rated 5 out of 5 The care card actually helped
I always overwatered. The card said “when the top 5 cm are dry”, so now I check with a finger, and for once nothing has rotted.

Rated 4 out of 5 Lovely plant, slightly smaller pot
Healthy and well rooted. The size guide was accurate for height; the grow pot was a little narrower than I pictured.
