Check with the Light FinderAbout this plant
Each “pearl” is a tiny water store with a translucent window that lets light into the leaf. Happy strands trail a metre or more, but the roots are shallow and rot quickly in wet soil.
How to care for it
- Light
- Bright light with a few hours of gentle direct sun, like an east- or west-facing sill.
- Water
- When the pearls look slightly wrinkled and the soil is dry, about every two weeks in summer; much less in winter.
- Good to know
- Use a shallow pot and cactus compost. Cuttings root easily when laid on top of dry soil.

Rated 5 out of 5 Rated 5 out of 5 The care card actually helped
I always overwatered. The card said “when the top 5 cm are dry”, so now I check with a finger, and for once nothing has rotted.

Rated 4 out of 5 Lovely plant, slightly smaller pot
Healthy and well rooted. The size guide was accurate for height; the grow pot was a little narrower than I pictured.
