How the Light Finder works
Each window direction starts with a light score: south 4, west 3½, east 3 and north 2 in the northern hemisphere. Distance takes light away quickly: half a step at one metre, one and a half at two, two and a half at three or more. A curtain, tree or building opposite takes another step.
The result is rounded to our four-step light scale and compared with each plant’s range. It is a rule of thumb, not a light meter: if a plant looks pale or stretched, move it closer to the window.
